The calendula is infused directly into the tallow before soaping, a slow overnight process in a crockpot that allows the anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties of the flower to fully transfer into the fat. The result is a bar with visible golden calendula flecks throughout a natural cream-white base.
Organic colloidal oatmeal adds a gentle, skin-calming layer, softening the lather and supporting compromised skin barriers. Together calendula and oats are two of the most well-studied botanicals for sensitive and eczema-prone skin.

What is calendula and why does it help sensitive skin?
Calendula officinalis (pot marigold) is one of the most studied botanicals for sensitive, reactive, and eczema-prone skin. Rich in flavonoids and triterpenoids with documented anti-inflammatory and skin-soothing properties. It has been used in traditional skincare for centuries specifically for compromised and reactive skin. In this bar the calendula is slow-infused overnight directly into the grass-fed tallow, allowing its beneficial compounds to fully transfer into the fat before saponification. The golden flecks you see in the bar are real organic calendula petals.
Infusion Process
Before this bar is made the tallow is loaded with organic calendula petals and slow-infused overnight in a crockpot on the lowest setting. This extended infusion allows the botanical compounds in the calendula to fully transfer into the fat, creating a calendula-rich tallow base before a single drop of lye is added. It's a more intentional and time-consuming process than simply adding calendula at trace, and the result is a bar that carries the full benefit of the flower throughout every layer.

How long will one bar last?
With daily use a single bar typically lasts 6-8 weeks. To extend its life store it on a well-draining soap dish and keep it away from standing water between uses. Tallow soap softens in water so keeping it dry makes a significant difference.

Yes. Small batch lab was founded specifically for sensitive and eczema-prone skin. Our most gentle bars are Colloidal Oatmeal and Organic Lavender Oats. For the most reactive skin we always recommend starting fragrance-free and patch testing before switching fully.

Grass-fed beef tallow, organic essential oils or phthalate-free fragrance oils, and natural botanical colorants like turmeric, madder root, indigo powder, and French green clay. Every bar contains 5 ingredients or less, nothing you can't pronounce.

No, our bars contain grass-fed beef tallow and some formulas contain organic beeswax. We are transparent about this and believe grass-fed tallow from regenerative farms is one of the most ethical and skin-beneficial ingredients available.
